Pros:

I've spent close to 20 years renting apartments in NYC, and this is the first time I've written a review for any building. I truly enjoyed living at Gotham West. Upon getting hired for a job in NYC, I needed to find a place to live quickly. I'd lived in Hell's Kitchen before (I had to be one of the first tenants to live between 10th and 11th Ave years ago!), and the area has grown and become one of the most enjoyable, diverse, walkable areas in the city. The leasing office was extremely helpful to me (I worked with Shoshana). The application and leasing process took place online and moved very quickly. Here's what I enjoyed about the building and my apartment:MY APARTMENT--Studio at a lower price than other luxury studios I looked at in the area, facing east with a great view of the city skyline and lots of morning/afternoon sun.--Spacious walk-in closet with a hidden wifi/modem compartment.--Nice-looking functional kitchen with full-size stainless appliances, Bosch dishwasher and large soft-close drawers (excellent balance of cabinets and drawers compared to many apartments), and an iPhone charging outlet in the kitchen.--Nice, smooth-tiled bathroom with excellent lighting and tons of mirrors, including a full-size dressing mirror that opens with lots of shelves inside; two large soft-close cabinet drawers underneath the sink; very good water pressure in the sink and shower/tub.THE BUILDING--Location is near some of my favorite places in the city: easy to walk for rush tix to Broadway shows (rush tix are cheap and usually better seats than expensive tickets), Joe Allen's on 46th, Nizza and Juice Generation on 9th Avenue, and many more HK restaurants. --I really enjoyed the food downstairs at Gotham Market; the pizza spot, Corner Slice, is known as one of the top pizza spots in the city, and it also serves La Colombe coffee. The staff at El Colmado is great. There has been some turnover with establishments in the market but what's there is very convenient, and there's a new Sunrise market across the street which is a welcome addition for salads/omelettes/juices/quick needs.--This building is great if you love dogs. Bad day at work? Come home and the doggos will make you smile. And the porters keep the building very clean even with all the dogs.--Lobby entrance has a view of a spa-like water pool outside (relaxing).--Refuse rooms are cleaned out several times a day; I never saw them overflowing which is a first for me in NYC.--Best amenity space of any building I've lived in; huge lounge (with a business lounge) on the first floor with a rotating art installation, many comfy chairs, fireplace, kitchen area, TV and pool table; roof deck has spectacular city views and great lounge chairs as well.--Front desk concierges were welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful, especially considering how large the building is. They say hello when you come in (somewhat rare these days). --Free commuter shuttle bus is generally very dependable; I worked near Grand Central and it was a quick trip in the morning, definitely much nicer than taking public trans (and again, free, so it saved me some cash).--Near the water/running trail and dog park. Fascinating to watch the changes happening now along 11th Ave.--Good fitness room and the Resident Experience Manager schedules lots of building events, including chef demos in the kitchen. You get a building discount card for merchants they have relationships with.Especially considering how quickly I had to find an apartment and get moved in, I felt very fortunate to end up at Gotham West. (I did not experience any noise at night and slept well facing the center of the building.)

Pros:

Normally I don't write reviews.... But this is my 2nd time moving back to GW. Building is beautiful, amenities are great, rooftop terrace and apartments are a great size compared to most high rise buildings in the area. Not to mention, the costs of living in buildings such as these. Rent is marginal compared to. Staff was easy and accommodating when applying. Process took less than a day!

Pros:

I've been a tenant here for close to two years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The amenities are fantastic, the upkeep of the building is immaculate, my 1 bedroom is spacious and modern, and the staff is ever-helpful. On the latter, I had to resolve my lease renewal as well as a few other matters and had the pleasure of dealing with Shoshana in the leasing office on a number of occasions. She was courteous, extremely efficient, and found an amenable solution every time. I would highly recommend this building to any prospective tenant. You'll feel at home after a long day at work and in the event you ever need help, their fantastic team will take care of you.

Pros:

I stayed at Gotham West for close to two years. The location was great, away from the maddening crowd of Times Square but close enough to enjoy everything great about that tourist spot. The staff were professional and the shuttle service worked well for majority of the time. Amenities are fantastic and the proximity to Gotham West Market and the cute little wine shop, Veritas, make this place wonderful.A note on my security deposit - an amount was deducted for damages already existing when I moved. Probably my fault that I did not note those items and depended on their records. So my advice, (1) a walk through with maintenance and ask for what they have on record of existing damage to the apartment and (2) ask for specific instructions on how they want proof of anything you note as existing damage upon moving in. I did reach out to the management company about the deductions and walked them through the items. I was provided the full refund for my security deposit.

Pros:

My wife, daughter and I were condo shopping last week and came upon this awesome complex. We wanted a good safe place for our daughter to live. The condo complex was great but what really made us decide on this place was the FANTASTIC leasing administrator we had. Nikki listened to us when we talked about our needs and knew exactly what we were looking for. We met a lot of leasing agents in NYC over the last week but NONE of them came close to Nikki. Gotham West got a steal when they found her. The complex is perfect in meeting our needs and we appreciate all the time Nikki took with us. By the end of our time with her we felt like she was part of our family!!! So, thanks Gotham for hiring Nikki she is awesome and so is the complex. Now if my daughter would only except the job offer..

Pros:

I have been living at Gotham West for over 3 years now and I couldn't be happier! Very well kept building and the staff is kind and quick to respond to any issues I had which is a huge advantage in any building here in NYC. You have a food hall right downstairs with a wide variety of wine & dine options, and an amazing rooftop with some incredible water and city views. The gym is a great size and maintained well with diversified classes offered almost every day. The events and parties hosted in the building throughout the year are a great way of meeting new people. You really do get a sense of community here. My only complaint would be the street noise but that's pretty much everywhere you go in the city.

Pros:

Great staff and amenities, always responsive to any needs or questions. Parking in the building is a huge plus and the roof deck is one of the best along with the spacious gym.

Cons:

My only negative is that if you face 11th ave be prepared for noisy nights with horns, clubs and trucks backing up.

Pros:

I don't usually leave reviews but I love Gotham West! Lived at Gotham West for nearly two years and even though I have to leave the city soon for work, my experience has been nothing short of 5 star living in Gotham West. The amenities are first class, the gym and gym classes, the staff in the building and their help whenever you need them is always a huge help. Not to mention the building has a great shuttle service which drops me close to where I work in the city so it's perfect! It also picks me up and drops me back home to Gotham after work. The events the building hosts for its residences are always great fun to meet new people and interact. From movie nights to cooking classes with great chefs from some of the city's best restaurants, it's always fun. Finally, the rooftop is something you have to check out of you stop by Gotham to view the place! A full view of the Manhattan sky line with another superb view of the Hudson River. This place is a must if you are looking for a place in the city to stay and make your home.

Pros:

I can't put into words how terrific of an experience I had moving in - literally the easiest since I moved to NYC eight years ago. Jillian and team in the rental office couldn't have been more accommodating of my crazy work schedule. I've been at Gotham for three months now and everyone from the front desk to the porters to building management have been super helpful, friendly and available from day one. I highly recommend giving Gotham a chance!

Pros:

My boyfriend and I have lived at Gotham West for the last 6 months and we have had nothing but great things to say. Our leasing agent at the time Mr Douglas Schmich was extremely helpful and attentive to our requests and needs throughout the entire process. The building has a wide variety of apartment sizes and layouts compared to most cookie cutter buildings in the area which leaves many options for the potential renter. The agents there are truly looking out for you and will provide as much assistance and info during the contract process. The staff, maintenance and front desk/doorman have been absolutely amazing and on point during our entire stay thus far. Communication and updates are immediate and manageable via their BuildingLink mobile/web app. The amenities are key and ones that you will not find in other buildings in the area. The meeting/conference/entertaining center off the first floor lobby are gorgeous and readily available. The fitness center has plenty of cardio, free weights, machines and also offers daily fitness classes. If you have a personal trainer you can also utilize the space with them. My favorite part of the building is the gorgeous roof deck which is opened throughout the Spring, Summer and early Fall. It's perfect for sun bathing, hosting events and amazing sights of the skyline to the east and the Hudson to the west. The building is extremely diverse and welcoming. Whether you're a young professional, new family or single guy/gal in a new city...you'll love this building.

Pros:

Lived here for over two years and absolutely loved it!! The staff was amazing and I absolutely loved the layout of our apartment. I had absolutely no problems while living there and loved every minute of it!

Cons:

Warning! Don't expect your security deposit back. The roof views cannot be beat! However moving out was a different story. We had multiple rugs down (as required by the apartment and when we lifted the rugs the flooring under the rugs did not match the rest of the flooring. The material used for the floor is very cheap!! I took great care of our floors and when maintenance would come in randomly for other things they commented multiple times on how good my floors looked. Yet I was charged $700 for floor replacement when we moved out!! Beware what you use to clean the floors. They are impossible to keep clean and do not hold up to normal wear and tear!! In our lease it said they would provide us with a cleaning starter kit so you know what products to use. We never got one!! So be sure to ask what to use to clean them and best of luck with the cheap flooring!

Pros:

I recently worked with Liza & Shoshana in the leasing office and am so excited to move into my new 1 bedroom, with incredible views of both the river & the city! Shoshana originally took me on the tour and knew everything about the entire building and amenities. I came back again and worked very closely with Liza. She also was so patient and informative and really walked me through the process. They're both so sweet! I probably looked at close to 25 apartments, and they were by far the best and made me feel comfortable through each step! I know I'll be in great hands if I ever have any issues, which was a big reason I decided to move here!

Pros:

Okay - so here's my update 2 years on! Still LOVE this building. I've been living here for two years and the management and staff are fantastic. The small problems that have arisen (neighbours leaving barking dogs, mainly) have been dealt with very quickly and efficiently. The nearby nightclub has quietened down, although outside noise has never been much of a problem for me - it's NYC, for goodness sake! The facilities are fantastic, with a great roof terrace and some fabulous film nights. It's possible to walk everywhere. I don't need to be close to a subway, but even if I did, it's only a ten minute walk away, and for me the sunsets over the Hudson are far more important. I love El Colmado, the tapas bar in the market downstairs. I really could not be happier - and I am STILL THE fussiest person on the planet! I really am!

Pros:

+2 stars for an excellent staff though

Cons:

4000+ dollars a month for project heat, poorly designed apartments and a 10+ minute walk to the subway. The interior of the apartment may look nice at first glance, but the materials chosen are not durable and we've inadvertently dinged the fake wood floor tiles that I'm sure will be reflected somewhere in the security deposit. Worst designed bathroom vanities I've ever seen too, water just evaporates on top and leaves hard to clean water stains unless you sop it all up with a towel every single time. The taps turn in counterintuitive directions too - my guests always comment on it.

Tenant:

Pros:

There are some great things about this building, and also some things that aren't so great. But the good far outweighs the bad. I've been living in the 550 building for almost 2 years in an alcove studio on a higher floor that faces north. - The units are very well designed and finished. I have a huge walk-in closet--rare for a studio. There is lots of storage in the bathroom. The kitchen is very nice with beautiful wood cabinets, high-end appliances (KitchenAid), including a hidden dishwasher, and nice composite countertops. There is also a Bosch washer and dryer in the unit, which is a HUGE plus. The floor is like a light-colored wood laminate, which is very nice. The A/C unit keeps the apartment sufficiently cool in the summer and heats very well in winter, although it can be a bit noisy when it turns on, making weird clicking noises.- The amenities in the building are fantastic. The roof is absolutely stunning, with an amazing 270-degree view of Manhattan, and in the summertime, one of the staff mans the bar. He keeps your drinks for you and even makes sure you and your guests' cups (no glass allowed) are always filled. The gym is great, with pretty much everything you need to have a complete workout, with separate rooms for cardio, weight training and group classes. The market on the ground floor has about 8 different options for food and they are all delicious, although definitely on the pricey side. The bike valet at the bicycle shop is a great perk--just call down to pick up your bike and then leave it there when you are done and they put it away for you. The residents' lounge is huge and modern, with a very cozy gas fireplace.- The concierge/doormen are generally pretty friendly. As with most buildings with doormen, they will hold your packages for you, facilitate your dry cleaning pick-up/drop-off, and there is even a cold storage for groceries. The security is surprisingly a little bit lax for a building like this though. It's pretty easy for anyone to get into the building, since there is no fob required for the elevators. Guests are supposed to check in at the front and then they buzz the unit, but if the concierge happens to be doing something in the back, anyone can just walk right by. If you look like you belong, they don't really question you. For me, this is a little bit of a concern.- The walls in the apartment are pretty thick, and I have never had any issues with noise from my neighbors. I did have a lot of problems with noise from the Pacha nightclub and Hudson Terrace when I first moved in, but it seems to have gotten a lot better over the past year. Every once in a while though, I do hear the bass sound, and I have to sleep with ear plugs. - The management is very responsive and I have always had any maintenance concerns resolved very quickly. The building seems to be very well managed.- The units are expensive. For a studio, my rent is very high. Finally, some people think that the location is a bit out of the way, but for me, I really love the neighborhood. It is very close to the running/biking path along the West Side Hwy, which is great in the summer. 9th Avenue is only a short walk away, where there are tons of great restaurants to choose from. And the nearest subway entrance (A/C/E) is at 8th and 44th, which is really only a 10-minute walk away. I've gotten used to walk to my work near 5th Ave, which is a 25-minute walk, so a 10-minute walk to the subway is nothing. All in all, this building is pretty great. I don't have many complaints, and assuming that my astronomical rent doesn't go up any higher, I would probably make the decision to stay.

Cons:

And I do have a slight issue with the fact that there are also low-income units mixed in throughout the building.- When I moved in, I paid one month security deposit due to my good credit, which was refunded a month later as a perk, and I signed a 24-month lease with two months free. It remains to be seen whether they raise my rent at the end of this period (I'm hoping not!)- The biggest issue I had occurred back when I first moved in. I was shown a unit on one floor that I really liked. We went back to the leasing office and I immediately said that I would take it. While he was getting ready to draw up the papers, he apologized and told me that the unit was no longer available since he had just gotten an email from someone that was taking that unit. But he told me that I could have the same unit one floor above for $50 more. I asked for him to ask the management to waive the $50 given the situation, but they refused. I can't help but think that it was a little bit of a bait and switch. I asked for them to waive the monthly amenity fee ($50), but they also refused. So, the leasing agent said that he would make it up to me by giving me some gift certificates that I could use at the market, and a nice welcome basket when I moved in, but this never happened. Minus one star for that!

Pros:

I've lived in the building for the past year in a fantastic corner studio and have liked it so much I'm upgrading to a 1 bedroom on a high floor next month. Nancy and Toby from the sales team could not have been more helpful throughout. The building is beautiful and very well maintained - with one of the best 360 degree rooftops in the city. This helps make up for the fact that it's a bit of a hike to the nearest subways. The units are great with lots of layouts to choose from. Common areas and gym are really nice as well. It's great to be able to use the conference room from time to time if you work from home like me. All the guys at the front desk are fantastic and very friendly. Plus you have Gotham West Market right downstairs and Hudson River park waterfront a block away. Overall a great choice in Hell's Kitchen!

Cons:

This place should be avoided. Not only is it overpriced for its off the beat location (3 avenues to subway), but it's leasing arm does not warn anyone about the noise problem from club Pasha for people choosing apartments on the W 45th street side. Noise from the bass music from midnight to 4 am on weekends is very annoying. The building has slanted floors and the heaters pop like 1960's radiators when heating. Not good for new construction. There are good reasons this place is far from fully occupied. The building isn't worth the money paid (4K for a one bedroom), and with the many other problems we've experienced but won't expound upon, we would rate it zero if we could.
