Pros:

My fiancé and I have resided at the Monterey at 1501 Lexington approaching two years now. We're in the process of renewing our lease once again. We absolutely love it! I cannot think of one con that we've experience during our time here. Our cozy little studio overlooking Lexington avenue is most certainly "home" and besides our own efforts to make it so within our apartment, the Monterey itself provides countless reasons to always have a place in our hearts.MANAGEMENTThe management is absolutely phenomenal. Since day one, Vincent (manager) and his team have been extremely accommodating, helpful, efficient, organized, prepared, sharp and best of all, genuinely happy, smiling faces. I have tremendous respect for all of the guys up front and most of them I've built strong enough relationships with to consider them my friends.LOCATIONYou can't beat the location. It takes literally 40 seconds from leaving the building to swiping in on the 6-train. It speeds up the commute, makes winters and rainy city days less frustrating and my favorite part is on the way home when your train pulls in to 96th street you're already "home". The neighborhood itself is also wonderful. Three quality grocery stores, a starbucks, a barbershop, CVS, restaurants, a wine store, central park (5 minute walk), and the absolutely wonderful Catholic Parish St. Francis de Sales is right around the corner and has become an integral part of our lives. EMPLOYEESEvery employee in our building is an an absolute pleasure. They truly care about the residents and it shows day-in and day-out. It's really great to come home to a smiling face and a helping hand on a daily basis. They handle all of our packages and keep everything organized with an online portal. They provide printouts if needed, secure backups keys if locked out and handle guest and delivery arrivals. Constant and efficient communication helps us so much.CLEANLINESSThe building is so well taken care of, even the garbage rooms smell amazing. A lot of time and effort goes into making the building look amazing at all times. One of our favorite parts is the fresh, beautiful flower arrangements at the entrance every week.REPAIRS/REQUESTSAnytime we have a maintenance request or need something repaired in our apartment, Michael is there within a few hours, sometimes minutes with a big smile and solve. Sometimes it's shocking how fast things get done around here. It's very comforting.ROOFTOPThe true gem of this building is the rooftop area that allows you to get some quiet time and feel like you are taking a step away from the craziness of the city. There's nothing better than having a dinner on the terrace on a warm summer night or laying out for some sun on hot summer's day. It's very big and allows for fun weekend guest entertainment. Plus, it holds a very special place in our hearts as this is where I proposed to my fiancé with a candle-lit, late-night proposal. Here's a video of what management helped me coordinate to pull this 1,000 candle rooftop terrace success: vimeo.com/137773338 All-in-all, the Monterey is and has been an incredible experience that will always be an integral part of our lives and growth as a young couple. We hope this helps make your decision on your next home easier!- Mark and Janay

Pros:

I would highly recommend 1501 Lexington Avenue building (The Monterey at Lex) and the leasing office which is the Monterey. I moved into the 10D unit in 1501 Lexington Ave in August 2011 and really enjoyed my five years in the building. The Monterey is a luxurious 24hr doorman building with a private fitness center, professionally landscaped rooftop garden and sun deck. The location is perfect next to the central park and the subway 6 train. There are tons of restaurants and grocery stores nearby, including Whole Foods. If you are a museum lover, it is the right location for you with the MET, the Guggenheim, etc. The building itself has a gym and a terrace where there are some summer time movie nights you could enjoy. I really haven't had any complaint during my 5-year stay in the building and in fact introduced a few of my friends to live in the building which I am sure they would recommend too. The staff in the management/leasing office are so helpful to answer your questions and cater to your needs, and it also applies to the wonderful live-in superintendent and the front-desk staff, all of whom are creating a wonderful living community in the building. The specific unit I lived in is super bright and spacious. The excellent kitchen appliances and granite countertops make home cooking a wonderful experience. Fortunately, the room in the building stays cool in the summer months so you don't need a lot of air conditioning, and magically, it is quite warm during the winter when it is freezing outside. That is also a big factor why I like the building a lot. Overall, for a rental unit you are looking for, I would recommend the Monterey property on Lexington Avenue. I am more than happy to provide personal testimonials if you ever have questions on the Monterey living on the Upper East.

Pros:

My wife and I moved into The Monterey at Lex (1501 Lexington Ave.) in 2015. Since then, we have been remarkably impressed by the hospitality of the management office, superintendent, and importantly the front desk. The employees of the front desk do more than just greet you and receive packages on your behalf, they also instill a great sense of security. Furthermore, they really get to know all of the tenants in the building. We have really felt like a part of the community from the first week that we moved in. They always ask how we are doing and about our daughter and they will grab our packages from the back room as they see us walking into the building. The building is also impeccably clean, from the ground floor to the roof terrace. The building's gym is also very nice and rarely busy. I have never had to wait to use a piece of equipment. Finally, the maintenance staff has been exceptional. The superintendent and maintenance staff respond to maintenance requests in a very timely manner and have always been great at resolving our issues (albeit rare). Overall, I would gladly recommend this building to people interested in moving to the upper east side.
