Pros:

My fiancé and I have resided at the Monterey at 1501 Lexington approaching two years now. We're in the process of renewing our lease once again. We absolutely love it! I cannot think of one con that we've experience during our time here. Our cozy little studio overlooking Lexington avenue is most certainly "home" and besides our own efforts to make it so within our apartment, the Monterey itself provides countless reasons to always have a place in our hearts.MANAGEMENTThe management is absolutely phenomenal. Since day one, Vincent (manager) and his team have been extremely accommodating, helpful, efficient, organized, prepared, sharp and best of all, genuinely happy, smiling faces. I have tremendous respect for all of the guys up front and most of them I've built strong enough relationships with to consider them my friends.LOCATIONYou can't beat the location. It takes literally 40 seconds from leaving the building to swiping in on the 6-train. It speeds up the commute, makes winters and rainy city days less frustrating and my favorite part is on the way home when your train pulls in to 96th street you're already "home". The neighborhood itself is also wonderful. Three quality grocery stores, a starbucks, a barbershop, CVS, restaurants, a wine store, central park (5 minute walk), and the absolutely wonderful Catholic Parish St. Francis de Sales is right around the corner and has become an integral part of our lives. EMPLOYEESEvery employee in our building is an an absolute pleasure. They truly care about the residents and it shows day-in and day-out. It's really great to come home to a smiling face and a helping hand on a daily basis. They handle all of our packages and keep everything organized with an online portal. They provide printouts if needed, secure backups keys if locked out and handle guest and delivery arrivals. Constant and efficient communication helps us so much.CLEANLINESSThe building is so well taken care of, even the garbage rooms smell amazing. A lot of time and effort goes into making the building look amazing at all times. One of our favorite parts is the fresh, beautiful flower arrangements at the entrance every week.REPAIRS/REQUESTSAnytime we have a maintenance request or need something repaired in our apartment, Michael is there within a few hours, sometimes minutes with a big smile and solve. Sometimes it's shocking how fast things get done around here. It's very comforting.ROOFTOPThe true gem of this building is the rooftop area that allows you to get some quiet time and feel like you are taking a step away from the craziness of the city. There's nothing better than having a dinner on the terrace on a warm summer night or laying out for some sun on hot summer's day. It's very big and allows for fun weekend guest entertainment. Plus, it holds a very special place in our hearts as this is where I proposed to my fiancé with a candle-lit, late-night proposal. Here's a video of what management helped me coordinate to pull this 1,000 candle rooftop terrace success: vimeo.com/137773338 All-in-all, the Monterey is and has been an incredible experience that will always be an integral part of our lives and growth as a young couple. We hope this helps make your decision on your next home easier!- Mark and Janay

Pros:

I would highly recommend 1501 Lexington Avenue building (The Monterey at Lex) and the leasing office which is the Monterey. I moved into the 10D unit in 1501 Lexington Ave in August 2011 and really enjoyed my five years in the building. The Monterey is a luxurious 24hr doorman building with a private fitness center, professionally landscaped rooftop garden and sun deck. The location is perfect next to the central park and the subway 6 train. There are tons of restaurants and grocery stores nearby, including Whole Foods. If you are a museum lover, it is the right location for you with the MET, the Guggenheim, etc. The building itself has a gym and a terrace where there are some summer time movie nights you could enjoy. I really haven't had any complaint during my 5-year stay in the building and in fact introduced a few of my friends to live in the building which I am sure they would recommend too. The staff in the management/leasing office are so helpful to answer your questions and cater to your needs, and it also applies to the wonderful live-in superintendent and the front-desk staff, all of whom are creating a wonderful living community in the building. The specific unit I lived in is super bright and spacious. The excellent kitchen appliances and granite countertops make home cooking a wonderful experience. Fortunately, the room in the building stays cool in the summer months so you don't need a lot of air conditioning, and magically, it is quite warm during the winter when it is freezing outside. That is also a big factor why I like the building a lot. Overall, for a rental unit you are looking for, I would recommend the Monterey property on Lexington Avenue. I am more than happy to provide personal testimonials if you ever have questions on the Monterey living on the Upper East.

Pros:

My wife and I moved into The Monterey at Lex (1501 Lexington Ave.) in 2015. Since then, we have been remarkably impressed by the hospitality of the management office, superintendent, and importantly the front desk. The employees of the front desk do more than just greet you and receive packages on your behalf, they also instill a great sense of security. Furthermore, they really get to know all of the tenants in the building. We have really felt like a part of the community from the first week that we moved in. They always ask how we are doing and about our daughter and they will grab our packages from the back room as they see us walking into the building. The building is also impeccably clean, from the ground floor to the roof terrace. The building's gym is also very nice and rarely busy. I have never had to wait to use a piece of equipment. Finally, the maintenance staff has been exceptional. The superintendent and maintenance staff respond to maintenance requests in a very timely manner and have always been great at resolving our issues (albeit rare). Overall, I would gladly recommend this building to people interested in moving to the upper east side.

Pros:

Both my wife and I very happy with the building. We are newly weds and have a one-bedroom on the 16th floor facing the Empire State Building. When we were initially looking for a space in the neighborhood we must have looked at every rental building in the vicinity. (Preferred to be close to midtown tunnel for Long Island and FDR for Brooklyn) 30 Park Avenue was an absolute stand-out. The lobby is well designed compared to the other outdated-looking buildings in the area. (IMO) There are multiple doormen, plus porters are on call at all times. (Most surrounding buildings have limited staff at certain hours) Importantly, all the units we looked at were tastefully renovated and had new appliances. After a year in the building, I will say that the in-house staff is top class. We had previously lived in a full service co-op in Greenwich Village by Washington Square Park with a very large staff, and the level of service at 30 Park Avenue is on par with that one. The majority of doormen here are exceptional. They are very attentive and are helpful with all requests. (We have too many favorites to name individually.) Maintenance staff responded very quickly the two times we needed service within the apartment. Also, the in-house dry cleaning and gym makes our life very convenient. The renting process was pleasurable. Henri, who handles the rentals was great to work with. Plus you can move up within the building to larger units as your needs grow. We like it so much we are planning on moving to a larger unit now and then eventually a two-bedroom. The building is both pet and baby friendly. ;) Looking for a rental can be daunting in NYC and 30 Park Avenue is a true gem in this city. If you can get in here, I highly recommend it.

Cons:

Please note most of the 5star reviews are fake, and 13+ are blocked. All reviewers have only 1 review. Really wanted to live here but management isn't reasonable.

Pros:

I have lived at the Monterey for 6 years and I am a huge fan of the Monterey, that includes both the building amenities and everyone that works here. The Monterey doormen, porters and front desk staff like Sean, Artie, Rad, Chris and Christian are great people and super helpful. They make the building feel like home. The maintenance guys are super helpful, kind and always fix issues promptly. The building Management - Henri, Senada, Claudia and Joleen are extremely responsive and go above and beyond to make the Monterey a great place to live. It's clear they really appreciate their tenants. The building is very clean, well maintained and upscale, from the beautiful lobby to the well-appointed common areas like the resident business center and the resident lounge - which is great and affordable for hosting private parties. The rooftop deck is huge with multiple areas with built in grills, sinks, fridges and ice machines. The roof is a fun social scene where residents get to interact with the neighbors and host private parties. The underground parking is super convenient and has an amazing staff. The building's gym is on par with any commercial gym equipped with a great private pool, saunas and steam rooms.

Pros:

This is a fantastic place to live. Amazing location, amenities, management. Hard to believe a place like this exists in NYC, its more like a resort, with a rooftop garden and pool in the building. My family, including a 10-year old, loves living here and I hope we can stay for years to come. Management reps Senada and Joleen are most responsive and professional. Right near Central Park and the 6 and Q subway lines. Playground right across the street. Thank you, Monterey!"

Pros:

You can't ask for more when it comes to call somewhere home. I have been living here for 3 years and have to move because of my work but I would highly recommend the Monterey to everyone! As I have been recommending it to anyone I know and looking for a place to live. The Monterey is a great place to live, for so many reasons: Let me start with the people here, who make this place home and became genuine parts of my life here. The management is always very responsive, considerate to the residents' needs, very friendly and always helpful. Also, they always look for new ways of making the place more fun and all around place such as organizing parties, dinners, offering perks, movie nights, yoga classes at the rooftop! Henri, Claudia, and James have been incredibly helpful to me whenever I need and they always go above and beyond to help all of us living here. I should also note that their friendliness and helpfulness didn't changed and even continued further, even after I decided to move out. They have been very supportive and helpful during the process. It is when you really know people are always truly caring and build genuine relationships. Doormen, porters, front desk stuff, they are all amazing!! So friendly, helpful, responsive. I will miss the doormen team a lot! Every single day/night their "welcome home" smile made my day. Building has all the amenities you can ask for in a luxury building: Always clean, well maintained & upscale, great roof deck with a lot of common and private areas, kitchen/BBQ sections, seating areas and of course a great view! 24 hour open gym has a great pool and at a great quality, with also very friendly staff working there. There is also dry cleaning, laundry, full concierge service and a business center with 24 hour access to computers/internet and free printers.Lastly, the location is great: Right by subway 6, one block away from Q, few mins walk to Central Park and all the museums (MET/Guggenheim etc.), close by Wholefoods and so many other grocery, pharmacy stores etc.All in all, as you can expect, I will miss this place a lot and hope to be back again! I would definitely suggest anyone looking for a new place to live to check Monterey! If nothing else, you will have a nice chat and warm welcome from the management :)

Cons:

Fast forward to 2017 and circa related management. This new "management" is a joke. The elevators are the absolute worst and water is considered a luxury I guess because you rarely have any. I stuck it out since work is located so close by but this place isn't luxury.!!!. The old trusty doormen are the best and make it worth coming in this place. Small box sized apartments with no halls to maximize the amount of units on a floor. Pure insanity. The area is the charm but if you value a buck stay away and all the long term tenants will testify to that fact. We had suicides and all types of unsavory behavior here. Please get a management company that can manage. They are completely harsh with their staff and have diminished the quality of basic necessities in here. Go away or all your tenants will. Their idea of parties are a joke compared to related also. Glad to have gotten out.

Pros:

I have been living in the Monterey building for a little over a year with my fiancé who is going on his 4th year- my experience couldn't be better. To start, management was extremely helpful in identifying apartment options that suited our wants (gorgeous view, office space) but also our financial needs. Once situated in our brand new apartment with gorgeous views of the Empire State Building, the service remained outstanding. The rooftop is spectacular with use of the grills we have rented out space and threw some memorable parties ! From hanging our art on the walls to putting our dry cleaning/packages in the apartment for us when we aren't home, my experience here has AMAZING. At the end of 2016, my fiancé and I were at a crossroad - unsure as to whether to move out of the city and closer to our parents, or to stay in the Monterey. Management is fair and understanding which made our decision easy- we just cannot leave!
