Cons:

The management office at The Balton has become a joke. They've had at least 3 different managers in a period of 4 years. The first set of managers that were there when the building first open were great but ever since they left it's been downhill. I also feel that the office is incompetent at this point.

Cons:

I finally met the new manager, how ironic they hired a heavy smoker. I had a question regarding my lease renewal because the assistant sends me letter stating i will be evicted. They never sent anything and my lease expired a month ago. I really feel the office is incompetent. By law we should receive our lease renewal the minimum 90 days before it expires. When i said this to them they just looked at each other. I am contacting a attorney.

Pros:

The Balton is by far the best high rise to live in the Harlem area if you can get in. The waiting list is 500+ for a great reason. Great amenities, friendly doorman, great tenants, and safety. Steps away from 125th express train. I never want to leave!

Cons:

I have lived at one of their properties on the east side for over 4 years and have not been bothered by the change in management because either way the staff has responded to the needs of the tenants most of the time. More recently the washing machines have broken down leaving only 2 working out of 5. The building I signed up to live in was supposed to be smoke free in fact they promised to fine you even terminate your lease in the event you smoked in your apartment. This was only for cigarettes apparently smoking other substances is perfectly ok. I have grown exhausted contacting management about the smell of marijuana from my neighbors that enters my apartment after lingering in the hallway. It never fails almost every evening I get home and the same thing occurs. I was instructed to go investigate which apartment it was coming from and report it to them. The solution would be to move but I am not the one doing anything wrong. I have complained to 311 but the cops won't be dispatched until someone is actually caught in the act or dead from an overdose. I've considered that perhaps since this is one of the rent stabilized buildings we are less of a concern. I hope tenants at the Balton paying twice as much receive better service. My hope is that the email I sent again this evening will be read and responded to.
