Building Reviews (5)
21 West Street
21 West Street, New York, NY, 10006
Current Tenant: 2017 - 2021
The doormen and porters are great.
Cons:Avoid this building - the management office is not honest about repair work.
There has been construction since 2019 and no end in sight (as of April 2021). It is impossible to take calls and mentally taxing to hear hammering and drilling 9-5 every week day.
This has been going on for a more than a year and the only communications are weekly condescending template emails with only the dates changed.
The leasing office turns unhelpful the second you sign a lease. They are unwilling to make any reasonable accommodation for residents.
Please look elsewhere.
Tenant:
My home for 14 years, great staff, friendly building, a quick walk to everything.
Tenant:
I lived at Le Rivage for 2 years and it was one of the best apartments I've ever rented. The management was great. Sarah was wonderful, always very friendly and responsive. The staff at the front desk was great too. Freddy was the best! Also Constantine and the maintenance staff - always very friendly. The apartment itself was very nice... all new finishes and apart from noise in the hallway (through the front door), it was very quiet and I rarely heard neighbors. Really great amenities also - the gym with yoga classes was really great for an apartment gym, and the lounge and roof deck very nice too. I only moved out because I could no longer afford the rent increases each year which were quite steep.
Tenant:
We lived in this building for two years, and having moved to a different building, we appreciate Le Rivage all the more. A constant refrain in our new place (in Greenpoint) is: it's no Le Rivage. The doormen at Le Rivage were the best, particularly Alfredi (oh, how we miss him!) and Leonard/Mitchell. The maintenance guys are also excellent. We loved Constantin in particular, but also Frank, Jeffrey, Juan, Luis. They were helpful and friendly, and our maintenance requests were always promptly addressed, with one exception: the heating units. We lived in two different apartments, and in both, we had serious problems with the heat. They couldn't handle the serious problems in-house--they'd call in professionals--and as a result, it took longer than usual to fix the issues. They gave us a portable heater to carry us through, but it wasn't enough. That was rough. But this past year, after building-wide heat and AC problems, the management company voluntarily refunded a certain amount of rent to all of the tenants (including us, even though we were just about to leave). It was a good tenant-relations move. The building is well maintained. The gym is nice. The playroom is good. We would consider moving back, should circumstances allow it.
Tenant:
I lived in this building for 3 years and this was one of my favorite of all the buildings I lived in. High ceilings, beautiful kitchens, great gym with big windows and lots of sunlight, great views and honest electricity bills (I came from a building that used to pad them). Sako, the building manager, is the kindest man and a hard worker, and will go out of his way for you. Repair requests are also handled in a very timely manner. Sarah in the leasing office will also work hard for you. The building is maintained very well. Management was great during the time I lived there (until July 2015), I loved my time there though and only moved because I moved out of state. Big thanks to Sarah for her help and support with my move.
Cons:however, they seem to be increasing the rents to unreasonable rates and the tenants don't seem to be as happy. Many of the long-time tenants I knew were planning on moving out because they could no longer afford it and there was overall just a bad energy due to the changes that management was trying to make.
